Years
ago, the Champion Porsche GT-1 S.N. 005 was prepared in the
Gunnar Racing shops. It moved to Champion's new race shop
at about the time they started racing their new boat Lola.
While the car was at Gunnar, we made a fixture of the chassis
so we could repair it, rather than send it back to Porsche.
When the fixture was completed, we decided to make a Spyder
GT-1. The rules in the ALMS said that if the car was grandfathered
in, in 1999, it didn't need crash testing to run in the year
2000. We got busy with other projects and never finished it.
The project was named G- for Gunnar and 99- for the year it
was built. This year, Dave Watson with Grand-Am invited us
to bring the car as a SR-1 and run it in the series for 2002.
When we finished the car and took it to the Daytona Finale,
they had changed their minds, but said we could put a roof
on it and run it as a GTS car. We decided to utilize the 3.6L-4
valve GT3-R engine. We will enter the GTS class at the 24
Hours of Daytona. We will announce the drivers next week.
The paint scheme you will also see next week.
The following pictures represent the transformation of the
G-99 S (Spyder) to the G-99 C (Coupe).
